Background: Ashlyn O’Neil was born to an auror mother and a healer father. She is her parents’ second born child. The first, Cedric Seamus-Luc O’Neil, would later become a legend in his own right at Hogwarts for his astounding skill with Quidditch. Growing up, Ashlyn lived in her brother’s shadow, but she didn’t seem to mind it. Instead of seeking the acceptance of her own parents, she took comfort in the presence of her uncle Alexander Sterling (Head of the Auror Office) and older cousin Sebastian.
She made friends mainly with the children of her parents’ friends, and a pretty average childhood, . Much to the surprise of her Auror mother and her Healer father– both of whom are Gryffindor alumni – Ashlyn was placed in Slytherin. The decision even befuddled her, but she shrugged it off. Unfortunately, her childhood friends were placed in other houses, and the divide was something they could not cross. Ashlyn didn’t click quite well with members of her own house, so it wasn’t unusual for her to be left to her own devices. And with that started a seemingly endless array of trouble. After her first snog session with a boy in a broom closet on the fourth floor, Ashlyn realized the possibilities were endless. From there, it was mere baby steps into full blown partying, staying out late every night, breaking every rule in the book. She became a frequenter of the headmistress’ office, and of detention. Quite a few letters were written home to her parents to inform them of their daughter’s outlandish behavior, but nothing they could do would stop their daughter’s downward spiral.
In her sixth year of Hogwarts, Ashlyn became acquainted with a healer who took over Madame Pomfrey’s position at the time. Healer Kaeden Dereham dramatically altered the course of her life. It was from her multiple encounters with Dereham that Ashlyn began to realize her true passion: helping others. However, upon reaching her seventh year, she was expected to apply to Stanford Auror Training Facility due to the influence of her mother and Uncle Alexander. Ashlyn begrudgingly complied. She was accepted into the prestigious program, but after a mere month, dropped out to pursue her real dream of becoming a healer. Through hard work, Ashlyn secured the grades necessary to be accepted into an internship program at St. Mungo’s.
Her plans for greatness were nearly compromised following a ministry sponsored probe into the Aynsworth matters. Uncle Alexander led the task, and it wasn't long before his own son Sebastian was obtained as a prisoner. In a quest to secure more information, Alexander sent Ashlyn to the manor, under the guise of visiting her cousin and meeting these strange new people he had been spending time with. She did not know of her uncle's intentions until afterward, and by then it was simply too late. Ashlyn had too much of a bond with the Aynsworth siblings to senselessly pass information to her uncle. In response, she cut off contact from the Sterlings and assumed her duties at the hospital.
She wasn't so lucky the second time around. A year ago, Thayne summoned her to the manor to tend to Cullyn, who had been poisoned by one of his very own potions. Ashlyn complied without hesitation, only to be imprisoned once more. She was eventually released and once more returned to work, pushing all thoughts of the Aynsworth family from her mind while she obtained her healing license.
But the entanglement of her life with that of the Aynsworths didn't end there. Six months after she was given the title of Healer, she was placed with an intern... the very boy she had risked her life to care for last year.
